ST. GEORGE ISLAND, 4th BEST BEACH IN THE U.S.
Just in case you need another reason to book a charter with Williamson Outfitters, how about St. George Island (just a “stones throw away” from our lodge) has been named a top five beach in the United States, according to Dr. Beach’s 2021 Top 10 beach list!
St. George Island, ranked fourth in the nation, is the highest-ranked Florida beach and is one of two beaches from the Sunshine State on the list, along with Dunedin’s Caladesi Island State Park (#7). Dr. Beach ranks St. George Island behind only Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach (Outer Banks, N.C.), Coopers Beach (Southampton, N.Y.) and the top beach in the country, Hapuna Beach State Park (Big Island, Hawaii).
“This long barrier island, far from urban areas, is a favorite destination for beachgoers, anglers and bird watchers as nature abounds. Besides swimming in the crystal-clear water, I enjoy beachcombing and shelling. While St. George Island suffered a big hit in 2018 by Hurricane Michael, the area has substantially recovered, especially the sugary fine, white sand beach.
